Thicc thighs are trending right now. As a girl who’s body type is best described as aggressively pear-shaped (my pants are 2 sizes larger than my tees), this is very exciting for me.
And as someone who would need to be seriously emaciated and slightly bow-legged to get a thigh-gap, I have something to say:
Thigh chafing isn’t about size, it’s about thighs.
Dresses and skirts can be a nightmare when your thighs touch, and what are the solutions?
Boy-short underwear don’t cover the thighs. Bike-short style shapewear are uncomfortable and sweaty. Anti-chafing gel wears off fast. And don’t even get me started on pantyhose. No, really—“flesh-toned” according to whom?
Then one of my favorite fashion bloggers flashed a pair of slip shorts from under her maxi dress and I thought, “wut?” She swore by these Undersummers shortlettes for barely-there zero-chafing underwear goodness.

So I did what any self-respecting independent thinker would do—I immediately opened a new browser tab to check them out. And then, because this could be wardrobe-changing for me, I bought two pairs.
Is the end of thigh chafing in sight? I wore the *expletive* out of both Undersummers slip shorts for 2 months to find out—and here’s my answer.
Undersummers Classic Shortlette Review
Before we start, just let me stress something: these are not shapewear.
The Undersummers Classic Shortlettes are ultra-lightweight and silky-soft. There’s no restrictive compression to create bulges above the waistband or below the hem.
There are no elastics or silicone grips. Undersummers use a 96% Polyester / 4% Spandex fabric blend which manages to deliver moisture-wicking and breathability in what looks like a bike short.
Plus there’s an easy-breathing cotton gusset, which makes them snuggly and comfortable as sleepwear, too.
And here’s the good bit: they’re designed to eliminate ride up, roll-down, and rubbing.
The seam-free inner thigh protects my delicate thigh meat from friction and rubbing, making dresses mercifully comfortable even when I’m running around in 85° weather.
Combined with the fabric’s moisture-wicking capabilities, I can wear the Undersummers Classic shortlette all day, and all night, without anything starting to feel raw or swampy.

Everyday wear, these beauties will take you right through summer, from morning to night, and they’re comfortable enough to sleep in.
A Word of Advice…
Undersummers’ entire line is only available online, and their sizing is a little different from standard underwear ranges. Check their sizing chart online and make sure you’ve got the right measurements before you order.
Undersummers Originals Shortlette Review
Undersummers also do an ultrasoft Originals line which delivers the same breathability and lightweight snuggliness of the Classics line—but with lace!
A high-waisted lace panel and lace edging around the legs are smooth, silky, and lend a little sex appeal to what is probably a decidedly unsexy undergarment.

Those who want a cuter, lacier look.
Personally, I don’t wear my Undersummers for aesthetic purposes. I wear them to save my thigh skin from being razed off as I race for the subway at the end of the day, and to keep all of this *gestures wildly from my waist down* covered on windy days. If I want to give hubby an eyeful—or anyone else, for that matter—I’ve got other underwear to do that trick.
Having said that, hubby ain’t mad at the black Undersummers Originals and a black lace bralette, either.
My Overall Undersummers Review
Undersummers shortlettes are a non-restrictive, non-shaping slip short that protects the thighs from chafing and rubbing. These nifty, lightweight undershorts are carefully designed not to roll-down around my (not-so-flat) belly, or ride up my legs as I go about my business.
And just in case you're a bit skeptical (like I can be), here's a second opinion:
If you want to feel confident striding it out in a skirt on a windy day—try these.
If you want to wear dresses in summer without liberally basting your lower body in anti-chafing gel—try these.
If you’ve learned that fashion needs to fall in line with your body—and not the other way around—try these.
So, yes, to answer my earlier question:
Once I got my wallet around the premium price tag, Undersummers Classic shortlette was the end of thigh chafing for me. Can it do the same for you?
