How to Stop Boxer Briefs from Riding Up

We’ve all been there before.

We slid into a comfortable pair brand-new boxer briefs, stretched a little bit to break them in, and then tossed on a pair of jeans and headed out the door – only for our drawers to start riding up almost immediately.

For the rest of the day we are grabbing on to our pockets, pulling our underwear down from the outside, and fighting with boxers that just don’t want to behave.

It’s enough to drive anybody crazy.

Thankfully though, it is possible to stop those boxer briefs from riding up once and for all – slamming the brakes on all that discomfort permanently and living life with boxers that stay right where they are supposed to.

Size, It Turns Out, Really Is Important

The first thing you’ll need to do to prevent boxer briefs from riding up all day long is to make sure that you are wearing the right sized boxer breeds to begin with.

To put it pretty bluntly, a lot of guys like to get their hands on boxer briefs that are a little snug upfront – especially if they make us look a little “buffer” than we might have otherwise.

Nothing’s going to make your boxer briefs right up faster than underwear that is too tight.

The material is going to want to shoot right up to your bellybutton and beyond faster than you ever would have thought possible, and before you know it you’re dealing with a really uncomfortable situation.

All you really have to do to remedy this problem though is to get your hands on boxer briefs that are a little bit looser, especially around the crotch and the thighs.

Give yourself a bit of extra breathing room to sacrifice some of that showstopping “slim fit” performance that smaller briefs bring to the table (who’s going to notice through your genes, anyway) and you’ll be a lot more comfortable.

Fit Matters – BIG TIME!

underwear fit matters

Fit is another big piece of the puzzle you’ll want to get right and it’s something that goes hand-in-hand with appropriate sizing.

You’ve really got two different types of fits when you are dealing with boxer briefs.

On the one hand, you’ve got boxer briefs that are designed to fit you like a second skin without riding up the way that traditional banana hammocks might.

These are boxer briefs that usually are a little bit longer in the leg, are made of super thin materials, and are pretty much warm weather only options or intended for those going to the gym or working out.

On the other hand, you have boxer briefs that fit a little boxier – the kind of you might find at a department store with a one-size-fits-all most kind of build that may or may not work well with what you’ve got going on.

Either of these fits can work perfectly for you depending on what you’re after, but generally you want something that’s going to affect a little bit tighter around your thighs (even if that means bringing in a bit of extra elastic into the equation).

The better the boxer briefs fit your body the happier you are going to be, that’s for sure.

What Are Your Favorite Pair of Boxers Made Of?

boxer materials

Material choices a role in how comfortable you’ll be as well as how much your boxers move, that’s for sure.

There’s a reason why inexpensive boxers made of cheap fabrics feel like you be better off wearing nothing at all, if only because of how annoying the fit and comfort level is going to be across the board.

It’s tough to get cozy in a pair of boxer briefs that are made from 100% cotton that shrinks up in a warm wash, but it’s equally as difficult to get comfortable in a pair of boxer briefs made 100% from some space-age material that’s going to have you feeling pretty unprotected.

The happy medium you want to shoot for is a combination fabric that has elements of cotton (for the breathability) and polyester or something similar that introduces a bit more strength, a bit more stretch, and to moisture working capabilities.

What Kind of Ride Are You Working With?

Midrise boxers

The ride of your boxer briefs are going to influence whether or not you’re dealing with scrunched up brief legs or something that lays flat against your body exactly where you want it to.

Midrise, low thigh, and low ride boxer briefs are usually what you’ll have to pick and choose from.

Midrise boxers are notorious for creeping up a lot higher than they should, whereas low thigh boxers are little bit longer in the leg and generally stay exactly where they are supposed.

The tricky one to deal with is low ride boxer briefs that seemingly want to slide in every direction aside from the one that you want them to stay in. Not only will they creep up towards your crotch but they also pinching from your bellybutton, causing all kinds of discomfort.

It’s not a bad idea to avoid them at all costs, opting instead for low thigh (ideally) or midrise boxer briefs more than anything else.

Boxer Briefs Still Riding Up? Upgrade!

Finally, if your underwear is still riding up – you’ll want to consider upgrading to a different brand and maybe splashing a little more cash on your underwear at the same time.

Shoot for boxer briefs that have a legendary reputation in the business for saying exactly where you want them to know matter what.

You’ll have to do little bit of research and due diligence to land butter briefs like these, but as soon as you hit a homerun on those kinds of underwear you’re going to feel like you are a brand-new person.

Luckily, upgrading to quality boxer briefs as a whole lot easier today than ever before. More companies are making quality options at affordable price points and it’s not hard to find yourself swimming in choices for your next underwear upgrade.
