How to Fold Underwear: A Step-By-Step Guide

Not very many people enjoy folding their clothes, especially their underwear. They often just toss them into a sea of other underwear in a cluttered drawer. There is a better way though.

Folding your underwear will save you time, space, and reduce unwanted wrinkles. No matter what type of underwear you use, there is an easy way to fold it.

Ways to Fold Woman’s Underwear

If you’re looking to make more space in your suitcase or drawer for your favorite undies, folding becomes necessary. Oftentimes woman’s underwear is so small that it doesn’t seem necessary to fold it, but you will be surprised how much space it will actually save you.

Not to mention how much easier it will be to sort through your underwear to find the exact pair you had in mind to wear today.

The following folding methods work great for smaller underwear such as:

You can pick whichever method you feel is most beneficial for you and your underwear type.

The Small Square Method

This quick and easy method will leave your underwear in the shape of a small square.

Lay your underwear with the front facing down and the crotch closest to you on a flat surface. Fold the crotch up so that the end of it lines up perfectly with the top of the waistband.

Next, fold one side of the underwear inwards halfway so that it lines up with where you believe the center to be. Then fold the other side over so that it lays on top of the side you just folded and forms a perfect square/rectangle.

We recommend flipping the panties over and storing them that way. This makes it so that they are easily stacked. You can also choose to fold the panties in half after the final step to make them more rectangular than square.

The Easy Roll Method

This method is easy to master and results in a rolled pair of undies. However, the result does easily unroll, so if you are looking for a method that stays folded, this is probably not for you.

Lay the underwear face up with the crotch closest to you. Fold one side inwards halfway so that it rests where the center is. Then fold the other side over the top of it so that it lines up with the edge of the opposite side.

Grab either end of the waistband and begin to tightly roll downwards towards the crotch and then you are done.

The Eggroll Method

If you’re looking for a rolled pair of underwear that stays folded even as you toss them about, this is the method for you.

Start by laying your underwear face down with the waistband towards you. Then tightly roll three or four times towards the crotch, leaving about an inch of the crotch left unrolled.

Flip the underwear over and take each side of the waistband and fold it towards the center so that one overlaps the other. Now take the crotch and fold it up so that it lines up with the edge of the waistband.

To get it to stay folded, place your index fingers beneath each side of the waistband with your thumbs on the other side of the fabric. In other words, hold the underwear so that it is between your thumbs and index fingers.

Use your fingers to push the waistband up and your thumbs to push the rest of the fabric down. By doing this, you will successfully tuck the fabric of the underwear into the waistband to create a compact bundle that will stay together.

Ways to Fold Men’s Underwear

Men’s underwear is often larger and shaped differently than woman’s, making the above methods less effective. Here are a few quick and easy ways to fold:

  • Boxer briefs

  • Boxers

  • Briefs

  • Trunks

The Big Square Method

Like the small square method, this way of folding will result in a square, just a bit larger.

Start by placing your underwear face up with the crotch towards you. Take one side and fold it over towards the center. Then take the other side and fold it over so that it overlaps the piece you just folded forming a vertical rectangle.

Tuck in any extra material and then fold the crotch up towards the waistband about a third of the way. Now take the part you just folded and fold it again so that it lines up with the edge of the waistband. This will form an easily stacked square/rectangle out of your larger underwear.

The Tucked Square Method

A modified version of the big square method will leave you with a more compact square.

Start by doing all the same steps of the big square method. Once you have a vertical rectangle, instead of folding the crotch up, you fold the waistband down about halfway.

Next, tuck the bottom of the underwear into the waistband and then flip it over and you’re done.

The Army Roll Method

This technique is commonly used in the army because it is so compact and stays folded no matter how much you toss it around.

To start, lay your underwear face up with the crotch facing you. Next, act as if you are about to turn the underwear inside out by flipping the waistband downwards about two inches. Now fold the sides of the underwear towards the center so that one overlaps the other and you're left with a rectangle.

Now tightly roll from the crotch end up towards the waistband. Once you have rolled it all the way, it’s time to tuck the fabric into the waistband.

You can do this by tucking each index finger into either side of the waistband with your thumbs on the opposite side of the fabric. Push the waistband up while you push the fabric down until the underwear is perfectly tucked into the waistband.

Folding Underwear Is Easy

Folding underwear can be easy once you find the method that works best for you. With a suitcase or drawer filled with folded underwear, you’ll not only feel more organized but also have room for more of your favorite undergarments.
